How to Use Saved Views and the New Matter Interface

Last updated: October 2, 2025

Learn how to create new views of your chronology so you can focus on the right facts fast.

What is Views?

Mary is introducing a new interface for managing matters. Instead of a single running chronology, users will be able to save different views of their matter, each based on filters they apply. These views are stored in the matter and shared with the whole team.

For example, you could filter to “high and very high relevance events before the incident date,” save that as Incident Background View, and return to it whenever needed.

Why it matters

Lawyers often need to focus on different slices of facts depending on the stage of a case. Until now, this required repeatedly applying filters or manually compiling chronologies. Saved views:

  • Ensure consistency across the team by standardising how facts are presented.

  • Reduce rework by letting you return to a filtered set of facts at any time.

  • Provide instant clarity by separating “all events” from the Master Chronology of legally significant events.

How it works

  • Default Views

    • All Events: every entry in the matter.

    • Master Chronology: a focused view showing only facts marked “High” or “Very High” relevance.

  • Creating a View

    1. Apply filters in the matter (e.g., relevance, date range, themes—later).

    2. Select Save as new view.

    3. Give the view a name (e.g., “Medical history pre-incident”).

  • Updating a View

    • When you change filters in a saved view, Mary will prompt you to update the view or save as new.

  • View Repository

    • Views appear in the left-hand sidebar.

    • Default views are pinned at the top.

    • All saved views are shared across the team working on the matter.

  • Navigation

    • From any view, you can still access the summary, sources, document index, add documents, or invite collaborators.

Use cases

  • Preparing for mediation: filter to “Very High relevance” events in the six months following the incident.

Why we made this change is to prepare for the upcoming ‘themes’ tagging delivery. Soon you will be able to

  • Medical analysis: create a view of all treatment-related events before and after the injury.

  • Team coordination: ensure everyone is looking at the same filtered chronology when drafting submissions.

Tips or Notes

  • Default views cannot be deleted, but you can rename or reorder custom views.

  • Filters can be layered (e.g., relevance + date range + source).

  • All views saved in a matter are automatically visible to your team.

Known limitations

  • Views cannot yet be grouped into folders (planned for a later release).

  • If two users edit filters in the same view at the same time, only one update will be saved.

  • Theme-based views and narrative components are not yet available.
