How to Upload Email Attachments to Mary
Last updated: October 22, 2025
Mary automatically detects and uploads attachments from email files (.eml and .msg).
How it works
When you upload an email file, any attachments included with that original email will appear as separate reference documents in your matter.
Supported file types will process normally and can be viewed like any other document.
If an attachment isn’t supported (for example, a
.pngimage), it will show a “failed” status to let you know it couldn’t be processed.
Current limitations
Only attachments from the original uploaded email are added.
If that email includes another email as an attachment (for example, a forwarded chain that itself has attachments), those secondary attachments won’t appear yet.
There are no visible interface changes, attachments simply appear alongside your other reference documents.
Example
If you upload Client Email.eml that includes a PDF medical report and Expert Opinion, your document list will show:
Client Email.emlMedical Report.pdfExpert Opinion.pdf
If the email also includes another email with attachments, those nested attachments won’t appear yet and will need to be uploaded separately.
