Adding Matter Summaries Manually After You Have Uploaded Documents
Last updated: October 1, 2025
If you've already created a matter and uploaded documents but don't see relevance ratings or a matter summary, you can manually create a matter summary to get relevance ratings for your facts.
Since you've already uploaded documents to Mary, you won't be able to add a key document to automatically generate a summary. Instead, you'll need to manually create a matter summary.
Adding a Matter Summary
Go to the "Matter Summary" tab (located at the top left of your interface)
In the matter overview section, provide 2-3 sentences describing what the matter is about and who the main people involved are
In the Key Issues section, specify what kind of information you're looking for using this structure:
Example format for Key Issues:
'Highly relevant information:
Any mentions of back pain or trouble in the medical history
Comments or reports by the operating doctor or nurses post-surgery'
Using Relevance Filtering
Once you've created your matter summary, Mary will analyse every fact and assign relevance ratings. You can then filter your facts by relevance:
Go to the "All Facts" tab
Click the "Filter By" button
Select "Relevance" and choose "High" and "Very High"
Your Chronology view will then display the most relevant facts based on the criteria you specified in your matter summary. You may need to refine your matter summary after the first try to get more specific results - the more detailed and specific you are about what you're seeking, the better the relevance ratings will be.
