How to Move Your Account to a Different Organisation

Quick answer: If you created a personal account but need to join your firm's existing Mary organisation, contact support@marytechnology.com to request a migration. You must export Word versions of all your existing matters first — migration permanently deletes all matters in your current organisation.

Destructive action warning: Account migration permanently deletes all matters, chronologies, and uploaded documents in your current organisation. This cannot be undone. Export everything you need before requesting migration.


When You Need This

This typically happens when:

  • You signed up individually and created your own organisation, but your firm already has a Mary account and you need to join it

  • You were set up under the wrong organisation during onboarding

  • Your firm has restructured and you need to move to a different organisational account

Before You Start: Export Your Existing Work

Before you start: There is no way to transfer matters between organisations. All matters in your current organisation will be permanently deleted during migration. Complete the export steps below before contacting support.

  1. Open each matter you want to preserve

  2. Click Export and download the Word version of your chronology

  3. If you have used Fact Explorer, use the copy button on each question to copy your questions and answers to a separate document. Fact Explorer results are not currently included in the Word export, though functionality to export these into documents will be added in the future

  4. Save all exported files to a secure location on your local machine or firm network

  5. Confirm you have exported everything before proceeding

How to Request Migration

  1. Email support@marytechnology.com with the subject line "Organisation migration request"

  2. Include the following details:

  • Your name and email address (the one you use to log in to Mary)

  • The name of the organisation you want to join

  • Confirmation that you have exported all matters you need to keep

  • Confirmation that you understand all existing matters will be deleted

What Happens During Migration

Here is what our team does once you confirm:

  1. Your account is removed from your current organisation

  2. All matters, chronologies, uploaded documents, and Fact Explorer data in the old organisation are permanently deleted

  3. Your account is added to the target organisation

  4. You will have access to your new organisation's shared credits, matters, and any collaboration features

  5. You will receive an email confirming the migration is complete

The process typically takes 1-2 business days after you confirm the request.

After Migration

  • Log in with the same email address and password as before

  • You will now see your new organisation's matters and credit balance

  • If you need to recreate any of your previous matters, upload the original source documents into new matters in your new organisation. This will consume credits from the new organisation's balance.

Known limitation: There is no self-service way to switch organisations. Migration must be handled by the Mary support team. There is also no way to move individual matters between organisations — only the user account itself can be migrated.
