Why Do Documents in the Index View Show as 'Undated'?

Last updated: September 30, 2025

If you're seeing documents marked as "Undated" in your Index View, this is likely because you're working with a chronology that was created before our system began automatically extracting and displaying document dates.

Understanding the Issue

Historical chronologies (those created before our document index feature was implemented) will show documents as "Undated" and categorized as "Other" document type. This is because the system didn't originally capture these fields when the chronology was first processed.

Solutions

You have two options to resolve this issue:

Option 1: Regenerate the Chronology

We can regenerate your chronology to include the document index with proper dates. However, this will remove all of your current edits, so only choose this option if you haven't made significant changes to your chronology.

Option 2: Re-run with Same Documents

If you run the chronology again using the same documents, the new version will include the document index with proper date information while preserving your ability to start fresh.

Future Chronologies

All new chronologies you create will automatically have the "Date" and "Document Type" fields properly populated, so you won't encounter this issue with future projects.
