Credits, usage and spending limits

Last updated: September 24, 2026

A credit measures document processing in Mary. One fully processed page uses one credit. Credits are deducted after the page fully processes. Further questions and work on those processed pages within Mary are included, with no separate usage charge.

Use existing processed material for further work; review the page estimate when adding new files.

Mary offers custom enterprise pricing with unlimited firm user seats. Your organisation's agreement determines its allowance, rates and billing terms.

Estimate the credits for an upload

  1. Select the files you intend to add and review the displayed page estimate.

  2. Check any rejected or skipped files and confirm the selected material.

  3. Select Finish & Generate for a new matter, or Process when adding files to an existing matter, to begin processing.

  4. Check the completed processing status. Selecting or transferring files alone does not trigger the completed-page credit deduction.

For example, processing 2,000 pages uses 2,000 credits. Asking more questions or preparing further work from those same processed pages within Mary does not add a separate usage charge.

Spreadsheets use an approximate page count for processing, called a page equivalent, rather than one credit per sheet. If the estimate is unexpected, contact Mary support before processing a large intake. See supported files and upload limits for the capacity limits.

Read your billing information

If you have access to your organisation's billing information, open Billing from the application sidebar. Otherwise, ask the firm's authorised billing contact to check it with you. The available panels depend on the billing arrangement; some invoiced or custom arrangements may not show these controls.

  • Billing Overview shows an estimate of the month's cost at that point in time.

  • Credit Usage shows monthly usage and the remaining allowance.

  • Billing Limit, where available, sets the maximum monthly spend. The minimum is the plan's monthly cost. Raising the limit allows additional billed usage at the applicable plan rate.

  • Billing Alerts, where available, offer separate alerts for using all included credits and reaching a chosen spending threshold. Enabled alerts are emailed to all organisation admins. The Spend Alert threshold sits between the plan's monthly cost and the Billing Limit.

Check these values before a large intake. A spending alert is a notification threshold; use the Billing Limit and your agreed terms to understand the spending allowance. Ask the authorised billing contact to review any proposed change.

An Insufficient Credits message appears

Ask the authorised billing contact to check the current allowance and Billing Limit, where available. Record the message and upload stage. If more credits or a limit change is needed, arrange it under your organisation’s terms, then check the pending upload before retrying.

Resolve an unexpected balance or charge

Compare the billing period and credit movement with the affected upload. Record the matter reference, processing time, page estimate and whether any files were rejected, retried or uploaded elsewhere.

For an unexpected charge after a failed upload, retry, repeated upload or copy added to another matter, ask Mary support to check that specific processing attempt before repeating it. Duplicate detection does not by itself tell you how that upload is charged. For a processing error, follow upload troubleshooting.

For an invoice query, send the invoice reference, period and line item to your authorised billing contact or Mary support. Use the same route for additional credits, payment details, billing-contact changes or subscription questions. Your agreement determines expiry, refunds, overage rates and cancellation terms.
